The uncomfortable truth

A rebate does not make every battery a good investment.

The Australian Government’s own guidance says battery savings may not repay the upfront cost within the battery’s lifetime. The answer depends on when you use power, how much solar you export, the tariff spread and what the installer is charging.

Compare the installed price after incentives with degraded savings over the warranty. Use your real solar exports, evening electricity use, import tariff and feed-in tariff—not a salesperson’s generic household profile.

What size home battery do I need?

Start with the lower of your average daily solar exports and your evening electricity use adjusted for battery efficiency. Compare usable capacity, not nominal capacity.
