Short answer

No federal Residential Clean Energy Credit is available for expenditures after December 31, 2025. A 2026 installer quote should not count the former homeowner credit unless qualified tax advice establishes a different, applicable provision.

What changed

The IRS states that the Residential Clean Energy Credit under section 25D is not allowed for expenditures made after December 31, 2025. That is the rule this calculator applies to 2026 homeowner quotes.

Older articles and sales pages may still describe a 30% credit. Check the installation and expenditure timing against current IRS guidance rather than relying on a stale search result.

How to check an installer claim

Ask the installer to identify the tax-code section, eligibility conditions and the tax year in writing. A contractor cannot determine your personal tax liability.

  • Do not subtract an unverified credit from payback
  • Separate installer discounts from tax credits
  • Confirm state and utility incentives independently
  • Use the final cash price in the X-ray
  • Seek qualified tax advice for your circumstances

Other programs may still exist

State, utility, tribal and local programs can remain available and change independently. Verify each one with the agency or utility responsible before treating it as money saved.
